What is Aida and which fabric should I choose?
Aida is the most used fabric for cross stitch: a cotton weave with a clearly visible grid of holes, so each cross fills one square and counting is easy. The number (11, 14, 16…) tells you how many squares fit in one inch (2.54 cm): the higher it is, the smaller the stitches and the more detail fits, but they're harder to see and stitch. If you're not sure, Aida 14 is the most common.
Linen and evenweave are plain fabrics with fine threads; each cross is stitched over 2 threads, so a 28-count linen equals 14 stitches per inch. Binca has very large squares: it's good for blankets or for learning.
Is your fabric not on the list? Choose “Other fabric” and count the squares in 2.54 cm.
